Longtime Regina music teacher, Janice Elliott-Denike was presented with an Honorary Lifetime Member Award and an Outstanding Teacher Award at the recent Saskatchewan Music Teachers’ Association Conference. The awards recognize those SRMTA members who have made a difference in their students’ lives and given outstanding service to their Association and their local musical community.
With a musical career of the highest calibre spanning 47 years, Janice Elliott-Denike is well-known to the Saskatchewan musical community and beyond in a variety of roles, including adjudicator and clinician for workshops and masterclasses across Canada. As a teacher specialising in advanced levels, she has had a major influence on hundreds of students. Many have gone on to perform and teach at leading Universities. Over decades, her students have won numerous Gold Medals and scholarships with the RCM, and she herself was recognised as Saskatchewan’s RCM Teacher of Distinction in 2018. Janice has frequently performed on CBC Radio, and for 25 years she was the guest artist of choice for the Regina Symphony Chamber Players Concert Series at Government House in Regina
Janice has been an SRMTA member for 43 years. She served on the Regina Branch executive many times and has been a member of the SRMTA provincial board for two consecutive terms. We recognize Janice for the excellence she has shown and shared throughout her career. Her intention to continue to play will be celebrated by many, but in the meantime, we know that her many musical progeny will carry on her legacy.
