Peggy L’Hoir Presented with Hugheen Ferguson Distinguished Teacher Award
At the recent CFMTA Conference in Edmonton, AB, Peggy L’Hoir was presented with the Hugheen Ferguson Distinguished Teacher Award by CFMTA President Laura Gray and Vice President Marlaine Osgood. Individuals who have made significant contributions to the art of music and the profession of music teaching are recognized through the award.
Peggy is an SRMTA member from Biggar, SK, and is an innovative teacher who inspires each of her students in the love of music. Her enthusiasm, vision and connection with each student make for an amazing musical journey for students young and old. Having taught for over five decades she is a sought-after clinician, adjudicator and mentor. While at home in Biggar, Peggy guides a large class of students through piano, theory, accompanying and composition, from beginner to Associate level.
Peggy is a Past President of SRMTA (currently on the Executive), and the CFMTA, having had the opportunity to serve on many committees, bringing growth and change within these associations. Community activities result in many events and programs, including the Heart of the City Program (a program designed to provide musical instruction to those facing financial or sociological obstacles), Summer Sizzle (a Kids Keyboard Kamp/Pedagogy Symposium), and many local fundraising concerts local and guests artists. Peggy enjoys being a part of diverse intergenerational collaborations within her community of Biggar.
